History of Astronism

The history of Astronism concerns the Astronist religion, the Astrosa (community of Astronists), the Astroma (contributors to Astronism), the Astroxa (ever-expanding collection of beliefs of Astronism), and the affairs of The Institution of The Philosophy of Millettism along with its various denominations and forms, from the early 21st century to the present.
The study of the history of Astronism is classified as a dispositional discipline of Astronism alongside disciplines like Astronist theology and Astronist philosophy among others. There exists two branches of study in Astronist history including Figures of Astronism and Astronist historiography.
Overview
Astronism originated with the revelations and writings of Cometan which he solely compiled into the founding text of the religion known as the Omnidoxy. This took place in and around the city of Preston in the English county of Lancashire across a period of seven years collectively known as The Founding of Astronism beginning in 2013 CE when Cometan was fifteen years old.
According to tradition, Cometan began to experience an intensive series of revelations and ideations from the day of his fifteenth birthday about the nature of The Cosmos, the importance of humanity's future in and exploration of space, the role and identity of philosophy and philosophers, and the creation of a new religion constructed on new beliefs, forms of theology, and philosophical principles that would eventually develop to become Astronism.
Astronism is fundamentally structured on the notion that it is humanity's existential destiny to explore The Cosmos and that it is this endeavour alone that will lead to humanity's transcension which is considered the ultimate achievement to Astronists. Cometan was born in an era of religious diversification in the United Kingdom in which non-Christian religions and atheism grew in prominence after a dominantly Christian identity and history had reigned in the country for centuries. Cometan saw this complex shift in religious diversification paired with segments of the population declining in religious interest and adherence as the reason for many people's unhappiness, but he didn't necessarily see existing religions as holding the answers to people's concerns and their dissatisfaction with materialism.
After coming across philosophy and admiring its principles and structures as distinct from those of religion, Cometan saw the role of philosophy in society as undermined and considered the identity of philosophers mystified to the wider populous which he saw as an injustice as he considered philosophy as the future structure of people's beliefs.
The earliest followers of Astronism were members of Cometan's family, namely his girlfriend Cosma who played a practical part during the era known as The Founding of Astronism. However, due to the modern era during which Astronism was founded, the organised philosophy was made available and known to a global audience from its inception due to the use of websites, social media sites, and other marketing techniques which is why a prominent form of Astronism is known as Digital Astronism. This demonstrates the distinctive differences between the founding and establishment of Astronism from those of other religions due to the eras and regions they originated in. Astronism spread to its adherents initially through digital channels and by use of marketing techniques rather than through associations with colonialism and empires such as how Christianity and Islam spread, or through oral transmission as Buddhism was gradually disseminated.
Cometanic Age
The Cometanic Age denotes the first age in the history of Astronism and spans the entire course of the lifetime of Cometan from the beginning of his public life on 1st July 2013 to his death.
The Founding of Astronism (2013 - 2020)
Main article: The Founding of Astronism
The Founding of Astronism denotes the first era in the Cometanic Age and is also often referred to as the eight year revelation as it lasted exactly eight years from 1st July 2013 to 1st July 2021. The Founding of Astronism was marked by several major events, namely Cometan's commitment to public life, Cometan's indrucies, his surographical abilities, and The Dedication among others.
The Year of The Gift
Main article: The Year of The Gift
The Year of The Gift is the first annual life period in the era of The Founding of Astronism. It commenced on 1st July 2013 and concluded on the 30th June 2014. The Year of The Gift is named so in order to emphasise the notion that Cometan's commitment to public life and his inspirations and revelations were to be considered as a gift and particularly his realisation of them as gifts.
The Year of The Gift began on Cometan's fifteenth birthday when he received his first personal inspiration to create his own fictional mystery detective character which he would later name as Jesse Millette and to accompany that character, he would develop a philosophy or way of life which he titled Millettism. Cometan's ideations continued to intensify as he began to experiment with writing his first works of fiction. He knew that his destiny was set to become an author as this was the first aspect of his life thus far that he felt deeply dedicated to. Cometan later described that a spark had been lit within him on the day of his fifteenth birthday, one that had not burnt out even years following its ignition.
During the rest of The Year of The Gift, Cometan went about his normal life as his vocation was not yet so engrained that he had fully dedicated himself to it. He continued writing the first Jesse Millette stories and slowly explored what it would mean to create a new philosophy, namely the components of a philosophy, the purpose of a philosophy, and how it might function.
The Year of Ignorance
Main article: The Year of Ignorance
The Year of Ignorance is the second annual life period in the era of The Founding of Astronism. It commenced on 1st July 2014 and concluded on the 30th June 2015. The year of Ignorance is so named as to highlight the relative reduction in productivity of Cometan in comparison to the year prior and to the year's following. This annual life period was marred by indecision on the part of Cometan as to what his vocation meant to him and he was overly concerned with how to become financially successful with his books.
Additionally, although Cometan was learning more about philosophy and religion during this time, his inspirations noticeably reduced in their intensity and quality. It is for these reasons that The Year of Ignorance is named so as Cometan demonstrated an ignorance to his own gift and vocation that had first revealed itself to him just a year before. Cometan began his time at Cardinal Newman College during this year and although he did not receive many inspirations and was largely ignorant to the strength and destiny of his vocation, Cometan did begin to learn more about the wider world, about politics, religion, theology, philosophy, belief, and the lives of important figures.
It can be argued that The Year of Ignorance is not to be seen as a negative year, but one that allowed Cometan to gather his thoughts, understand his vocation, and also to allow time for his identity and beliefs to form and prepare for what was awaiting him.
